Smokeless Tobacco, Baseball Trivia & Groomsmen Gifts to Chew On

thumb-smokeless.jpeg

With baseball season is in full swing and splatters of spittle are hitting the ground, our minds have momentarily become distracted from all things groomsmen gift and best man gift related.  Baseball season got us thinking about how one of the most enduring rituals of this all-American sport came to be. We’re talking about chaw, chew, snu, gator lip, dip, wad, redman, skoal and grit, that big pouch of gross gunk that baseball players like to stick between their lip, cheek and gums.

Do you and your groomsmen like cigars? I mean, really, really like cigars? If so, you may have just missed out on aquiring the granddaddy of all smokes – the Gran Habano #5 “El Gigante cigar.” It’s hard to believe that this 19-foot bad boy with a 3-foot circumference is really rolled fermented tobacco because it looks strikingly similar to a timbered tree trunk being hauled out of the woods.

Bachelor Party Paradise: Self-Serve Beer Taps

thumb-self-serve.jpg

Times are a changing, we are doing more and more stuff for ourselves. Most people under forty or fifty don’t even know that gas-station attendants used to pump fuel into your car or that elevator attendants were in control of the lift to ensure safe arrival and the desired floor of a high-rise. Help was also required for getting money out of the bank, now we self-serve at ATMs grocery store check outs and a host of other locations. Another sign of the future, the role of the bartender may also be changing . . . . make that vanishing thanks to the integration of new technology in bar and food establishments.

Seven Strange-But-True Wedding Laws

thumb-seven-laws.jpg

Laws can be very weird. We’ve found some doozies when it comes to getting married. For example, men in Saudi Arabia, despite their exalted status, have to make sure the bride gets her daily grind. Coffee, that is. Apparently, there is a law on the books that says woman in this country may divorce her husband if he does not keep her supplied with coffee. We say, give her a monogrammed coffee mug as a wedding gift to make sure she knows where her bread is buttered, err, where her java is brewed. Some might expect international laws to be strange to the American culture, but here are some very strange-but-true laws from states right in in the USA.

Honeymoon Travel Tips

thumb-honeymoon-travel.jpg

Every groom and his bride can expect the honeymoon to be a memorable trip, wherever the location. Memorable for most honeymoons conjures up images of romance, relaxation and few worries. But, keep in mind that “memorable” can also mean “events have gone disastrously wrong.” Make sure you recall your honeymoon with fondness in the years to come by being aware of issues during travel that could arise and screw things up. And, remember, if the bride’s not happy, you’re not happy!

Having a “Best Dog” in your Wedding

thumb-best-dog.jpg

Sometimes inviting your “best friend” to be in the wedding means stocking up on jerky treats and squeak toys. No, we’re not talking about your college roommate (even though he has been known to drink out of the toilet bowl), but about that fearless and faithful friend, Fido. Because many guys consider their dog to be part of the family, it only makes logical sense to make them part of your joyous celebration.

How Grooms Can Help Out With Wedding Planning

thumb-how-grooms-can.jpg

Even though the wedding day is billed as “the bride’s day,” it doesn’t mean that the groom’s role is unimportant. In fact, the groom’s role is very important – he’s one-half of the union that is about to take place. Without the groom, the bride would be marrying an imagined husband – and that’s called crazy-makings in our book.  So, if you take the point of view that it is also “the groom’s day” (which you should), you need to be aware of the responsibilities of your role.  Brush up on the traditional responsibilities of a bridegroom below. However, if wedding planning appeals to you and want to break with tradition, talk to the bride about other tasks you can take on other than those listed below. Sharing the wedding workload a great way to start your marriage!

Grooms, Make the Rehearsal Dinner Yours

thumb-rehearsal-blog

It’s pretty obvious the wedding is about the bride; that is, if you listen to most people. Phrases like “it’s the bride’s day” and “all eyes on the bride” make it seem like the groom is quite expendable and should take a backseat in the decision-making process.  It seems like all guys get to do are order the tuxedos and pick out the groomsmen gifts. Women get bridal showers (although couple and groom showers are catching on), get to wear something out of the ordinary, and basically get treated like queens through the whole wedding process. If you are a guy getting married stand up and make a statement that your opinions count to, and that it is “the groom’s day” too. The rehearsal dinner is one event that you can plan and execute how you see fit. Especially considering that it’s the groom’s parents and/or the groom who pays for and hosts the event.

Stay Calm and Carry On at the Wedding Ceremony

thumb-stay-calm.jpg

Grooms, even if you didn’t have an ounce of worry or anxiety during the engagement process, things may feel much different at the wedding ceremony. I speak from experience when I say that the enormity of the actual wedding day will give even the most laid-back, happy-go-lucky guy heart palpitations . . . and this heart skipping is not caused by love for your betrothed (but, of course you adore her in every way) but is instead a by-product of the nerves, anxiety and worry that you may not have even realized were building up.

Study Says Curved Beer Mugs Increases Quantity Consumed

thumb-main-study-says.jpgThey say if you use a smaller plate, you’ll eat less. You would think the same theory probably holds true for the size of your glass. Celebrity weddings just make our hearts go aflutter (insert sarcastic tone here), we can’t wait to see who’s wearing what and how over the top all the details go. Okay, we pretend that we don’t care about which stars are getting hitched, but really we do. When a male celebrity gets engaged, it reminds us regular Joes that getting married isn’t really that bad of a deal. Adventurous Outdoor Bachelor Parties

Plus, you don’t want him to have to spend his budget for groomsmen gifts on bailing himself and everyone else out of jail the next day. Keeping this in mind, an “outdoor adventure” bachelor party is sure to get hearts pounding in much healthier ways – especially if you consider he won’t be killed the next day by an angry bride. Why Personalized Groomsmen Gifts are Best

groomsmen-gifts-personalized-sm.jpg

The search for the perfect groomsmen gifts has plagued about-to-be-married guys since the beginning of time. Well, maybe the problem doesn’t date back that far. Probably, just making it to the next meal was a good-enough prehistoric present for the entire wedding party. But today, these guys who are going to plan your hopefully awesome bachelor party, stand around in a fussy suit or tuxedo on the wedding day, usher the geriatric female guests to their seats really deserve a special token of your appreciations. One of the best ways to show that you are thinking specifically of that person is to give a personalized groomsmen gift. While each of the groomsmen gifts will be alike (such as a groomsman flasks, engraved cufflinks or pocket knives), each will also be as unique as the recipient thanks to the addition of a name, monogram, or initial letter engraved on the gift. There are numerous other reasons why it makes perfect sense to give personalized gifts for groomsmen, here are a few:

Man-centric Spending Strategy for a Wedding

wedding-or-beer-sm.jpg

The average wedding budget in 2011, according to a recent survey conducted by The Knot, costs a whopping $27,021 – and this excludes the honeymoon.  Do you know how many beers this would buy? According to our calculations, you could buy 18,000 cases of Budweiser (at $15 dollars a pop) which equates to 43,3oo cans of icy, cold goodness. If you consider 55 years to be the maximum beer-drinking lifespan of a man (from age 21 to age 76), that comes out to be 785 beers a year – or a little more than two beers a day!  Would you rather have an “average” wedding or be guaranteed two beers a day until you kick the bucket?  Gee, that’s not a hard decision for us guys, but trying selling that on the bride. Here are some other interesting wedding budget comparisons that may make you want to evaluate how you are spending your hard-earned money.

Never Say These Five Things to Your New Wife

man-beg-forgive-sm.jpg

Guys, I’m here to say that you need to put a filter on what you say, if you want to keep your marriage alive and well. There are certain things you never, ever want to say to your wife under any circumstances. There will be unpleasant repercussions, some of which you may have already learned by trial and error during the engagement period. You might get a good laugh out of this list; but trust us, she won’t. Say these things and she might cry, storm off, or freeze you out for months. We’re not telling you to lie. But, if you get put on the spot with a seemingly no-win question like, “do these jeans make my butt look big”, just re-evaluate how your answer of “no” really is the truth. I mean, “no” those jeans don’t make your butt look big when compared to a 300lb guest on the Jerry Springer Show.  Keep that last part to yourself.  Here are some other things you should never mention to your Misses.

Tips for Making Surprise Groom Dance a Video Hit

If I had a dollar for every viral video I’ve watched, I’d be able to retire and do something worthwhile with my life. Seems like every bride and groom are trying to make it big by putting out a funny video based on the proposal, walk down the wedding aisle or at the reception. What To Do: You Don’t Want Kids at your Wedding

kids-weddings-sm.jpg

Allow kids to come to your wedding, or not. That is a sensitive topic for many grooms and brides planning the most special day of their lives. It’s your wedding and your party, you have the right to have it play out anyway you see fit – even if that playing is in a kid-free zone. Think of it as a wedding present to yourself. While many children can be quite well-behaved, it seems that at a wedding all bets are off. Often this is because the pint-sized partiers actually do have a reason to fuss, if you think about it. They are constrained in uncomfortable and fussy clothing, they are up way past their bedtimes (missing naps, too) and they are not being served the chicken nuggets and peanut butter they are accustomed to munching on.  But, if you have pressure from the bride or friends and siblings who all want to bring their kids, don’t worry, there are tactful ways to say “no” and also creative alternatives to allow a few rugrats in.

Raise the Bar at Your Reception

Grooms, you can leave all the frilly, girly decision for the bride. Really, who cares about the exact meaning certain flowers connote, if the canapés should be served with a cocktail fork, or what style of bridesmaid dress would best suit a wide range of body types?  Most grooms we know primarily concerned with what beverage is going to be served at the reception (as well as at the bachelor party, rehearsal dinner and groom’s waiting room). If your lovely bride-to-be has appointed herself the decision-maker of every wedding detail, make sure you speak up and let her know what you think about the drinks – or forever hold your peace.  The drinks, just like every other aspect of the wedding, reflects to your guests a personal style that you’ll want to have a say in. Otherwise, you may end up with skinny margaritas, sangria, hibiscus iced tea or some other ladylike libation.

Top Reasons a Guy Should Get Married

Becoming a “married man” doesn’t mean a lifetime filled with sitcom stereotypes.  Television often portrays guys in a traditional marriage situation as those poor saps who have lost all the passion for life since trading his bachelor days for honey-do list days. Even those bachelor friends who haven’t settled down yet will endlessly tease a married man about the ball-and-chain and how much better it is to be flying solo. But, in reality, married men have many reasons to embrace their status as one-half of a couple. Here are just a few:

Money Clips, Credit Cards and Paying Incidentals on the Fly

Money clips have long been a popular choice in groomsmen gifts. This quintessential men’s accessory carries a certain caché and that caché is cash! If you are planning to give your wedding attendants a money clip, it’s still an excellent choice in gifts for groomsmen. But, of course, you’ll want to take into consideration all the other financial tools a man has to carry around on a daily basis, specifically a bunch of credit cards. Today, more than ever, credit cards are the primary means for transacting money. Payments traditionally only made with cash can now be made available on credit cards, thanks in large part to technological advancements in the industry. Companies such as Square, Intuit and PayPal have been marketing small credit card readers that fit on the top of smartphones and this has expanded the number of vendors that can accept plastic payments.

Can I Have More Than One Best Man?

A question that comes up more frequently than you’d think is whether it is “okay” to have more than one best man in your wedding. So, before you down your which-guy-to-pick stress with the help of a flask, we’ll set the record straight. While it is “traditional” to have one best man, there is no reason why you can’t have multiple best men in this day and age. Despite the 60+ year age disparity, Harris has mentioned in the past that “she is the one keeping up with Hef.”  Sources confirm that the May-December romance will culminate with a wedding at the Playboy Mansion this New Year’s Eve with family and close friends in attendance.  So, if Hef were to have a posse of groomsmen, what kind of groomsmen gifts do you think he’d give?  Here are our top picks:

Personalized bota bag: Similar to the concept of carrying around a flask, the bota bag is an old-world style vessel that is ready to hold wine or other alcoholic beverages. A great choice in groomsman gifts for the guy who would rather drink wine than beer. Ergonomically kidney-shaped the strap is meant to be work around the neck and under one shoulder so that it comfortable rests on your side. When your thirst beckons, just take a refreshing swing out of the spigot.

Cabin series pokerset:  When the bachelor party ends up back at the hotel or cabin, poker or other card games are always an entertaining way to hang out into the wee hours. Present your wedding attendants with their own rustic-look poker set that features a wood-finish exterior customized with the recipient’s name and an outdoorsy design. Inside, all the requisite gear needed to play poker is packed neatly away.

Personalized ski lodge sign: Capturing spirit of snow sport enthusiasts everywhere, this vintage-look custom sign features a graphic of a skier catching air straight off the summit.
