GroomBlog: Kick back and relax

Taking Care of Business

Must...not...go...crazy. Words I keep repeating to myself whenever I start a sentence with 'I'm planning my wedding'. Words that I hope will get me through the next 11 months without spending every penny I have and driving Ryan up a wall reminding him to get his tux and groomsmen gifts.
Deep breaths. I think a list of what I have accomplished thus far might help me:

1. Get engaged. (I'm already ahead!)
2. Set a date. (June 9th, 2007)
3. ummmm....

Okay okay. So, I know I haven't gotten much done yet. But, eleven months is so far away, I don't see why people get this horrified look when I tell them that's all I've done.
My mother gave me this book that is supposed to tell you everything you need to know about planning your wedding. Maybe I should actually read it instead of laughing at the apparently 'Traditional' rules, such as having 12 (count 'em, 12) bridesmaids, 1 Matron of Honor and 1 Maid of Honor. This number does not include the 2 Flowergirls, 1 Ringbearer, 12 Groomsmen/Ushers and 1 Best Man. Holy Cow. Can you imagine? It will look like a three-ring circus with Ryan and I as Ringmasters. We talked a little about it, and had decided on 3 Bridesmaids, 1 Maid of Honor, 1 Best Man and 3 Groomsmen so we don't spend a fortune on bridesmaid and groomsmen gifts.

Now, though, that I think about it, I might not be able to keep it in those meager confines. I already know that my Maid of Honor will be Emily, as we've known each other for 12 years and we've planned it that way since we met in Junior High. Other than that, I will ask Micaela, Rebecca, Carrie, and Kristen to be my bridesmaids. I guess I should have Ryan's sister Caitlin to be in the wedding too, since I REALLY don't want to cause any animosity between myself and my family-to-be. Not to mention if I don't ask Caitlin, Ryan's pushy mother won't have any insults about the people I've chosen. Yes, I realize that is not always the best reason to ask someone to be in your wedding, but in the interest of keeping the peace, and of making Ryan happy, it seems a small concession to make. If I have to.

As I mull this over in my brain, I am realizing that I have a lot more planned (in my head anyway) than I originally thought. I guess because I am trying to be as mature and responsible as possible, I didn't even bother to think about the dreams I have had of my wedding day, as well as the dreams Ryan may have. Hmm....
