March Madness: How to Get Your Bride on Board!
Why do men nation-wide love this time of year? Because the wonderful annual event known as the Men’s Division 1 NCAA Basketball Championship, aka March Madness, can be viewed live on TVs across the land.
Gentleman, let’s face it – the build-up to getting married can be stressful as hell! Planning is something we’re great at when it comes to a fishing trip, a business dinner, or a horror movie marathon. But guest invitations and candles? Not so much.
During this period, a little recreational time can work wonders in the “maintaining your sanity” department, and the tourney can be that instant remedy you so desperately crave. A little time parked with a beer-in- hand in front of the tube can help you feeling refreshed when it’s time to tackle the wedding plans once again. Get some buddies involved and your time will be even better spent.
“But my fiancée doesn’t like it when I divert my attention from her for too long” you say. Well, she’ll love the fact that the experience will leave you as a refreshed and enthusiastic husband-to-be, and here’s a list that details how the tournament can make that happen.
1. Your planning struggles will be gone – yelling at the TV will help release that pent-up frustration!
2. You can subtly prod your buddies to figure out which direction to go with their groomsmen gifts
3. Your bracket victory in the office pool will help fund the wedding!
4. It’s a chance to spend time with your friends – remind her that they’re also a key to happiness.
5. The married life lessons you’ll learn – teamwork, sacrifice, etc.
6. It will help your Grad-school search and a better career – Suddenly you’re considering previously unknown schools like Davidson and Western Kentucky.
7. Being decked out from head to toe in your favorite school’s apparel will remind her of your ability to be dedicated to a cause.
8. You can get all of the crude jokes and behavior out of you before the wedding….ok, maybe some at least
9. It will be a chance to get wedding pointers from your experienced married friends.
10. The cleaning benefits - you’ll be obligated to clean the living room before and probably after your friends leave
11. Articulating why your team has a better shot at the title with your friends will help your public speaking abilities (comes in handy when it’s time for the vows).
12. She’ll know exactly where to find you if something important comes up…..preferably after the day’s games of course.
13. Deciding what chips and beer to buy will give you practice in being more decisive – comes in handy when choosing which shade of pink the napkins should be.
14. The victors will inspire you to be at your best everyday…..alright, so this one’s a bit of a stretch.
15. Most importantly, it will give her some free time too!
Think of this list as a mere starting point. After all, any way you can turn enjoying March Madness into a positive pre-wedding device is a victory in my book. Easier said than done? Possibly, but those sweet hours of basketball glee will definitely be worth the effort.
