A Judge, A Scrabble Match, and Gambling Groomsmen Gifts
In a fling that puts the "court" in courtship, judge Thomas Gehret, 59, and Teresa Giuliana, 52, were united in marriage today.
Grammatical Groomsmen Gifts?
The two met online, and though Gehret's initial lack of spelling and punctuation turned Giuliana off, his challenge to a Scrabble game he was sure to win sparked her interest enough to agree to a first date. Little did she know, it would be in his courtroom.
"I walked in, and he's in the middle of the hearing," Terez said. "He knew what I looked like, because I sent him a photo. I figured he'd be the guy in the big chair wearing a black dress."
Though it was hardly dinner-and-a-movie, some cozy in-chamber canoodling convinced Giuliana that Gehret was someone she'd like to see again.
Things looked promising, but the judge and his lady still had trials ahead. It turned out Gehret-for all his gavel-pounding day job-was surprisingly indecisive in life and had in fact been engaged four times prior with no actual marriages under his belt. Would the runaway groom pull it together to say "I do?"
Things looked rocky at first, with one romantic Manhattan marriage proposal that failed to officially pop. But after a surprising health scare, Gehret proposed to Giuliana at a post-ER dinner.
The verdict was marriage
The happy couple got married in Gehret's courtroom, courtroom 603 at the Criminal Justice Center in Philadelphia. A judge colleague who was also a Baptist deacon, presided. And with that, Gehret, the former 100-time officiant, became a first time groom.
